Over the years, Canfor has grown significantly in the U.S. south through acquisitions that began 10 years ago – including the acquisition of Scotch Gulf Lumber which brought me to Canfor. Operating under the name Canfor Southern Pine and with 14 manufacturing facilities and 1.4 billion board feet of southern yellow pine production, Canfor is now a significant player in the U.S. sawmilling business. Our U.S presence has also grown to now include engineered wood products.
As a result of our successful expansion, we have outgrown our corporate office space in Mobile, Alabama. As such, we have made plans to move to a new larger space in Mobile later this year. This new Mobile office will become the official headquarters for our Canfor Southern Pine operations, which allows us to access generous financial incentives from the State and County governments that will go a long way to offset our costs. These contributions were approved earlier this week, and we are grateful to Mobile County and the State of Alabama for their support and enthusiasm to host our new office.
Our office in Myrtle Beach, SC will continue to operate as usual and serve as the administrative hub for our US east side operations – much like the Canfor Administration Centre in Prince George serves our northern British Columbia operations.
Canfor looks forward to a long future of successful operations in the U.S. The new Mobile office will provide a better space for our Mobile operations and better position Canfor to continue to best meet the needs of our customers.
