Promoting health and well-being.

We promote health and well-being in the communities where we live and work by funding initiatives and equipment to promote physical and mental health.

We are proud to support the following health and well-being initiatives:

  • Ongoing support of Log A Load For Kids through direct donations, including truckloads of logs, and through participation with loggers and other forest sector leaders in golf and sporting clay tournaments, fishing events and other events to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in our communities
  • An annual $100,000 five-year commitment to the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s establishment of the M.H. Mohseni Institute of Urologic Sciences, a centre of excellence bringing together top medical talent and state-of the-art technologies dedicated to advancing urologic research, education and patient care in British Columbia

Committing to sustainability.

Our sustainability commitment drives our investment in environmental projects that protect and restore important wildlife habitats or ecologically sensitive landscapes, profile mass timber construction and support sustainability.

We are proud to support the following sustainability initiatives:

  • Donations to various universities across North America in support of conservation research and innovative technology development that builds knowledge, advances sustainability leadership and continually improves the biodiversity, performance and environmental benefits of well-managed forests
  • $20,000 to Clemson University’s Wood Utilization + Design Institute, a multidisciplinary engine of innovation where foresters, architects, engineers, constructors and building industry stakeholders come together to design advancements in wood-based construction materials

Investing in communities.

We invest in community initiatives promoting cultural awareness and resilience through grassroots projects, events, product donations for infrastructure and support for Indigenous communities and traditions. We empower future generations by funding sustainability programs and providing scholarships to students pursuing forestry-related careers.

We are proud to support the following community-based initiatives:

  • A $50,000 grant to The Home Depot Canada Foundation in support of a joint community build in Calgary, where we renovated a Trellis Society group home for marginalized youth at risk of experiencing homelessness
  • $110,000 in disaster relief support through the American Red Cross, the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and Habitat for Humanity to aid in immediate and long-term response and recovery from the devastating impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton
  • Over $220,000 in corporate donations to United Way organizations in our operating areas, amplifying the generosity and creativity of our employee-driven workplace campaigns
  • In Sweden, Vida donated $1 million to sports associations in our Swedish areas of operations, with a focus on supporting multi-generational health and wellness

Eligible applicants include groups, events and activities that have a direct connection to Canfor's operating communities and align with our four priority giving areas. Priority is given to registered charities with a Charity Registration Number (Canada) or EIN (US).

Ineligible requests include those from religious or sectarian organizations (unless they offer non-denominational community services), organizations that discriminate based on protected characteristics, individual educational sponsorships outside our established scholarships, enhancements to school property (unless post-disaster), travel expenses and individual participation in charity fundraising events.

After submitting your application, please allow at least six weeks for review. We are unable to accommodate requests on short notice. Only eligible applicants will be notified via email.

Yes, for event support, applications must be submitted at least three months in advance of the event date. For product donations, only requests for our existing lumber products will be considered and recipients are responsible for pick-up and transportation.

The Foundation offers up to four $1,000 scholarships per eligible high school to graduating students in Canfor’s operating communities. These scholarships support students pursuing careers in forestry, certified trades or business-related fields such as accounting, finance and human resources.
