Innovations.
From innovative building materials to bioenergy and wood-based plastic alternatives, we are applying innovation to deliver products that benefit our customers and the planet—today and tomorrow.
The future of forestry and wood products.
At Canfor, innovation drives everything we do. We are always looking for ways to improve how we use wood and fibre, making the most of our resources while reducing waste. Through research and new technology, we explore opportunities to enhance efficiency, develop new products and support sustainability. By continuously refining our approach, we aim to contribute to the long-term future of forestry and deliver high-quality, low-carbon solutions for our customers. Driving efficiency with advanced sawmilling.
We have made significant investments in technology across our facilities to enhance efficiency, sustainability and product quality. Our updated sawmill in Urbana, Arkansas, and the newly constructed sawmill in Axis, Alabama are equipped with modern wood processing technology, including precision digital manufacturing systems and advanced automation. These facilities also incorporate biomass-fueled lumber drying kilns, reducing our environmental footprint by utilizing renewable energy sources.
By integrating cutting-edge innovations, we are optimizing production, improving resource efficiency and reinforcing our commitment to sustainable forestry and manufacturing practices.

Sustainable building with innovative mass timber.
Mass timber is transforming construction in commercial, educational and industrial sectors with its sustainability, efficiency and performance advantages. Engineered wood products like glue-laminated timber (glulam) and cross-laminated timber (CLT) reduce carbon emissions, enable faster construction through prefabrication and offer exceptional strength and versatility. Canfor plays a key role in this innovation as a strategic supplier of high-quality mass timber components, such as laminating stock (lamstock) lumber and our innovative line of glulam Power Products®.
Notable projects, such as the University of British Columbia’s Brock Commons Tallwood House, showcase the potential of mass timber to redefine modern building design.

Creating bioproducts for the future.
We foster a culture of innovation to achieve greater value and maximum optimization from wood residuals. Our forward-thinking Bioinnovation Team is comprised of researchers and scientists working to identify the most promising bio-based solutions and products tied to the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Our most recent initiatives include developing a commercial wood-based alternative to plastic and exploring promising bioproducts like biochar.

Arbios Biotech.
Arbios, our joint venture partnership with Licella, completed construction and began commissioning its biofuels facility this year.
Arbios is commercializing a process to turn biomass from wood harvesting residue into renewable fuel with potential application for use in transportation. The residue is collected, processed and turned into a bio-oil, which is then refined by a third party into a fuel.
The facility is located in Prince George, BC, in the traditional territory of Lheidli T'enneh.
