Forest management.

Sustainable forestry is integrated into our business operations in Canada, the US and Sweden.

Sustainable forest management at Canfor.

Our sustainable forest management system and forest management plans guide our operations. We ensure forest harvesting aligns with government regulatory requirements and Canfor’s strict operational requirements and standards. Certifications are foundational to our sustainable forest management. 100% of Canfor-managed forests are certified to SFI® or FSC® Forest Management Standards and 100% of all sourced wood in our North American wood products operations is managed to the SFI Fibre Sourcing Standard.

British Columbia Forest Operations Map.

We are committed to transparency and public engagement in the sustainable management of British Columbia's Crown resources. In accordance with Division 3.1 of Bill 21—the Forest and Range Practices Amendment Act—we make our Forest Operations Maps available for public review and comment. This platform provides an opportunity to learn about planned forest activities and share feedback for consideration. All posted maps remain available for a minimum of three years, starting from 2021.

Forest regeneration.

We are committed to sustainable forest management, replanting at least three seedlings for every tree harvested in BC to promote healthy, resilient forests.

In 2024 alone, we planted 62 million trees—part of more than one billion planted over the past two decades—guided by science-based decisions that consider forest ecology, soil, climate and biodiversity.

The JD Little Forest Centre in Prince George, BC, plays a vital role, growing approximately 9 million seedlings annually using genetically diverse, regionally adapted seed to optimize survival. Reforestation is just the beginning; we monitor replanted areas for decades to ensure ecosystems thrive, supporting Canada's leadership in sustainable forestry.

British Columbia Forest Stewardship Plans.

We maintain Forest Stewardship Plans at each of our British Columbia Divisions specific to the land base associated with our Forest Licenses. These plans demonstrate how we will meet the legal obligation to address the objectives set by the government under the Forest and Range Practices Act. These plans are in the process of being replaced and we are providing an opportunity for interested members of the public to comment.

Sustainable Forest Management System.

The Canfor Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) Sustainable Forest Management System (SFMS) document describes how we will meet the objectives of the forest management and fiber sourcing objectives. Our SFI Sustainable Forest Management System is comprised of a number of matrices that identify how our divisional locations achieve the performance measures and indicators of the SFI standards. SFI marks are registered marks owned by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Inc.

Kootenay Forest Stewardship Council Certified Areas.

Our operations in the BC Kootenay region are located within a Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified area, reflecting our commitment to responsible forest management that meets rigorous environmental and social standards. Guided by Sustainable Forest Management Plans (SFMPs) and aligned with CSA Z809 standards, our approach incorporates input from Indigenous Nations, local communities and other stakeholders. The Canfor Kootenay Operations Sustainable Forest Management Plan (SFMP) describes how we will meet the FSC forest management standard requirements. The SFMP describes the indicators used to show conformance with the FSC principles and criteria. Canadian Forest Products Ltd., Kootenay operations’ FSC trademark license code is FSC-C152544
