Canfor supports children's STEAM gallery at The Exploration Place.
Canfor has a long history of supporting The Exploration Place and contributing to major projects, including the original sponsorship of the Canfor Atrium in 2000-2001 (later renamed the Gaia Gallery) and The Air We Share installation, which educated young visitors about air particulates and local industry.
Inspiring young minds in Prince George.
We are proud to announce a $40,000 sponsorship to support the creation of the Children’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Gallery at The Exploration Place in Prince George, British Columbia. This sponsorship highlights Canfor’s dedication to education, innovation, and giving back to the communities in which we live and work.
The Children’s STEAM Gallery is set to become a dynamic, hands-on space designed to inspire creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning in children and families. Scheduled for completion this year, the gallery will feature interactive exhibit fixtures that encourage imaginative play and exploration. Modeled after engaging spaces like Science World’s Eureka Gallery. This addition aims to bring much-needed indoor activities to the Prince George community, enhancing The Exploration Place's role as a hub for family-friendly learning and fun.
Stephen Mackie, President and CEO of Canfor Pulp, shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “At Canfor, we are committed to supporting education and innovation in our community. We are excited to make this investment in The Exploration Place which will create an engaging gallery space for hands on exploration of STEAM concepts for families to learn, play and discover together.”
The Exploration Place’s leadership also expressed gratitude for this investment. Dr. Todd Whitcombe, Board President, emphasized the impact of Canfor’s contribution, stating, “STEAM education and understanding are critically important for the future. With this very generous donation, Canfor has made a significant investment in our youth.” Executive Director Alyssa Leier added, “We are incredibly grateful for this support. Generous donations like this allow us to expand our offerings and reinforce our role as a community hub where science and culture meet.”
A legacy of support.
Canfor has a long history of supporting The Exploration Place and contributing to major projects, including the original sponsorship of the Canfor Atrium in 2000-2001 (later renamed the Gaia Gallery) and The Air We Share installation, which educated young visitors about air particulates and local industry. This new sponsorship builds on Canfor’s legacy of investing in impactful community projects.
Work on the gallery is set to begin as soon as fixtures are received. Rather than closing the gallery during the set-up process, fixtures will be added as they arrive. This phased installation ensures the community can begin engaging with the space right away, offering a sneak peek into the exciting possibilities the gallery will bring, all without interruptions or downtime.
Together, we are shaping a brighter future for families and young learners in Northern BC!
