Canfor’s Support of United Way Helps Build Stronger Communities

Canfor and our employees have been committed to supporting United Way since 1969 and our decades of fundraising efforts have already raised over $6 million for our communities.

In advance of our annual United Way fundraising campaign that kicks off today, throughout September different groups of employees had the opportunity to step away from the office or mill to learn more about the different organizations United Way supports and how our fundraising efforts make a difference.

Several ‘Seeing is Believing’ sessions paired employees with people who have personally benefited from the generous donations of Canfor employees. This included visits to:

  • The Bellies to Babies and the Women’s Resource Centre in Cranbrook, BC visited by a group of Cranbrook and Elko employees;

  • The Cranbrook Society for Community Living, which provides support and services to those with diverse abilities visited by a group of Elko and Cranbrook employees;

  • The Hospice Society of the Columbia Valley in Invermere, BC visited by a group of Radium employees;

  • The Invermere Summit Youth Centre visited by a group of Radium employees; and

  • A group of Prince George employees visited the Prince George Brain Injured Group Society and also had the opportunity to play a game of wheelchair basketball with community members who receive support from Spinal Cord Injury BC.

As well, a group of Vancouver employees participated in a ‘Day of Caring’ where they provided much-needed volunteer support at the Ray-Cam Community Centre. Employees painted, cleaned and provided other hands-on support in preparation for the Centre’s upcoming anniversary celebration. This meaningful volunteer experience benefited the centre and provided employees with a first-hand view of one of the many organizations that receives support from United Way, and how our donations help build stronger communities.

Another “Day of Caring” took place in Camden, SC where employees leant a helping hand to the Midlands Women’s Center. Canfor donated the mulch, land-grooming services, flower planting and debris removal, and along with other volunteers, completed transformed the neglected landscaping.

Three Canfor employees were joined by other community volunteers to transform the landscaping at the Midlands Women’s Center in Camden, SC.

I am very proud of the generosity shown by Canfor employees towards United Way throughout the year and with this annual initiative. I look forward to sharing the results following the conclusion of our 2016 United Way campaign – I’m sure it will again be a great success.
