After the storm: Supporting neighbours in need.

Through our community investment program, Good Things Come From Trees, Canfor Southern Pine provided more than $110,000 in financial support to three organizations best positioned to help with immediate and long-term needs: The American Red Cross, The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and Habitat for Humanity.

Back-to-back hurricanes battered US South.

When Hurricane Helene hit landfall in the fall of 2024, the major Category 4 storm left a wake of catastrophic destruction in its path. As devastated communities began gruelling recovery efforts, nobody could have anticipated another monstruous storm, Hurricane Milton, was close behind, hitting the Florida coastline just two weeks later.

The storms ravaged regions from Florida to Georgia, tore through the rugged mountains of western North Carolina andcaused damaged in eastern Tennessee.

Our operating areas in Western North Carolina, where wesource timber, was especially hit hard. Fallen trees blocked roads for weeks, making it difficult to get around. Bridges were swept away, power and water were lost, and access to cell service and fuel was cut off. Many people lost their homes, their belongings, their jobs and most heartbreakingly, their loved ones.

“The needs created by the hurricanes have been vast and varied,” explained Lee Goodloe, President of Canfor Southern Pine. “The most effective way we felt we could help is by investing in organizations expertly involved in rapid response and care for community in times of crisis, and we are grateful for the service of our nonprofit community partners.”

Supporting our communities in times of need.

Through our community investment program, Good Things Come From Trees, Canfor Southern Pine provided more than $110,000 in financial support to three organizations best positioned to help with immediate and long-term needs: The American Red Cross, The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and Habitat for Humanity.

The American Red Cross was quick to deploy disaster workers to help people with safe shelter, food, emergency relief supplies, emotional support, health services and financial assistance.

Canfor also leveraged its ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity to redeploy banked funds to serve the organization’s most immediate needs.

Our commitment to supporting these impacted communities extends beyond short-term relief to long-term recovery and rebuilding.
