By Kevin Horsnell, Vice President, Woodlands Canada
At Canfor, we have a great team of people who bring so much value to their jobs every day. I’m very proud of two employees in our Canadian Woodlands group who were recognized at a national level for their professional and personal accomplishments, which are helping to drive the forest products industry forward.
Carmen Augustine, a Forestry Supervisor in Mackenzie, made the Canadian Forest Industries’ (CFI) Top 10 under 40 list. Among the select group representing the newest generation of forestry workers, this award recognizes Carmen’s achievements and efforts to grow the quality of our industry. Outside of work Carmen spends her time volunteering with her local volunteer fire department and recreational trail association, as well as providing support at a forestry field school where Mackenzie elementary students learn about forest operations.
Christine Taylor, a Silviculture Supervisor in Prince George, was awarded the Canadian Institute of Forestry’s (CIF) Prince of Wales Award for Sustainable Forestry. This award, which is reserved for an outstanding young forest professional in Canada, recognizes Christine’s achievements and dedication to the principles of sustainable forest management policy, planning and practice. Outside of work Christine helps better the forestry industry through her passion for educating the public and building relationships, volunteering her time to the CIF’s Caribou Section and speaking to elementary and high school students about the benefits of working in the forestry industry.
Congratulations to both Carmen and Christine for their well-deserved awards and recognition. The passion and commitment they both have for our industry positively impacts Canfor, their communities and our industry. Thank you Carmen and Christine for being such great examples of the future of forestry.
