Company Changes
Early in 2016, we acquired Wynndel Box and Lumber, expanding our focus on specialty markets worldwide. The company is located in a region of southern British Columbia with exceptionally high-quality fibre. It started as a small box factory in 1913, and today has an annual production capacity of 65 million board feet of quality boards and specialty products such as premium fascia and fencing. Its studio select products have been used to sets for movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean and in events such as the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
In July 2016, we completed the third phase of an agreement to purchase the lumber business of Scotch & Gulf Lumber, LLC, in Alabama. The acquisition includes three sawmills Mobile, Fulton and Jackson with a total production of 440 million board feet of quality Southern Yellow Pine. In early 2017, we will complete the acquisition of Beadles and Balfour Lumber Companies, located in Georgia.
Our significant growth in the southern United States led to the establishment of new US headquarters in Mobile, AL. In October, we officially opened the corporate office space for Canfor Southern Pine in the historic Van Antwerp Building.
