Sustainable Forestry Initiative
Our WynnWood woodlands operations in southeast British Columbia are certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative forest management standard. An audit in May 2017 included forest operations and fibre sourcing for our sawmill at Wynndel, BC.
The audit found that action plans were in place to address earlier non-conformities. It identified one new non-conformity where some recommendations from a terrain specialist were not included in the design and construction of a road on steep terrain. There were two opportunities for improvement related to one green tree prescription and information about best management practices for landowners and woodsellers.
Our operations in the Alberta Forest Management Area, held by Daishowa-Marubeni International (DMI), are also certified to the SFI standard. A certificate of registration issued in 2012 expires in October 2018.
The 2017 audit found that the DMI Peace River Pulp Division’s sustainable forest management system and fibre sourcing program were in full conformance with the requirements of the SFI 2015-2019 forest management and fibre sourcing standards. There were no findings that pertained to Canfor’s embedded conifer quota within DMI’s forest management area.
