Combustible Dust
After explosions at two sawmills in 2012, the BC forest industry immediately began a significant and collaborative response to the issue of combustible dust in our manufacturing facilities.
Since 2012, Canfor has invested more than $20 million in capital and infrastructure improvements to better contain and remove wood dust at source. We also have a formalize dust control program and extensive employee training. In 2015, we focused on awareness so employees at all levels in our mills understand the risk, and are able to take steps to reduce it.
The wood products industry and regulatory agencies such as WorkSafeBC, the BC Safety Authority and the Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to make the management of combustible dust in sawmills a high priority.
