Don Kayne

Chief Executive Officer, Canfor Corporation and Canfor Pulp

Don Kayne was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Canfor Corporation on May 5, 2011. He was additionally appointed Chief Executive Officer of Canfor Pulp Products Incorporated on September 30, 2012.

Don has spent his entire career at Canfor, starting out as a regional sales representative in 1979. Don is motivated by what lays ahead for the forest sector as the global population and demand for sustainable, renewable products grows. Prior to being appointed CEO, Don spent 10 years as Canfor’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and is one of the lead architects of the market for British Columbia lumber in China. Don’s work growing markets for Canfor products around the world has provided him with deep connections to markets and customers in every region Canfor serves.

Don is currently a Director of both Canfor Corporation and Canfor Pulp. He is also a Director and Past Chairman of the Forest Products Association of Canada and a Director of the Council of Forest Industries, Alberta Forest Products Association and the BC Lumber Trade Council. In 2014, Don was appointed to the bi-national Softwood Lumber Board and currently serves as Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Programs Committee. He is also a Director of Cameco, one of the world's largest uranium producers and Chairman of the charitable organization Educating Girls of Rural China Foundation, which works to transform the lives of women and communities in rural areas of western China by providing access to education.

David Calabrigo, QC

Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary

David Calabrigo was appointed Senior Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary on May 6, 2011.

David joined Canfor as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in January 2001. In addition to his extensive responsibilities heading legal and corporate compliance for the Company, David is in charge of mergers and acquisitions – a key portfolio for a company that continues to grow at home and abroad.

Born and raised in Vancouver, David received his Law degree from the University of Alberta and an appointment as Queen’s Counsel in 2010.

Mark Feldinger

Senior Vice President,Global Supply Chain for Canfor and Canfor Pulp

Mark Feldinger was appointed Senior Vice President, Energy, Environment, Transportation and Sourcing on May 6, 2011. Mark began his career at Canfor in 1984, a year after obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from the University of British Columbia. Throughout his 30 years with the company, he has held a variety of roles in woodlands and manufacturing divisions of the Company. 

Among Mark’s responsibilities is driving Canfor’s energy strategy – growing our biomass energy self-reliance as well as new economic opportunities in the production of green energy. Sustainable energy use and production is a growing element of Canfor’s sustainability commitment, a portfolio that Mark has been extensively involved in advancing for years. Canfor is a recognized leader in sustainable forest management, and Mark’s passion and leadership are key drivers of the continuous improvement of the Company’s environmental performance. Externally, Mark participates in a variety of capacities, including his current role as Board Chair for FP Innovations.

Mark is a Registered Professional Forester with the Association of B.C. Forest Professionals and is a talented finishing carpenter who enjoys woodworking in his spare time.

Peter Hart

Vice President, Pulp and Paper Sales & Marketing

Peter Hart was appointed Vice President, Pulp and Paper Sales and Marketing in June 2015. Prior to his appointment, Peter was the General Manager Pulp Sales, a role he held since he started with Canfor in 2010.

When he joined the industry in 1984, Peter began in paper sales, where he progressed through a number of increasingly responsible positions. After 15 years, he moved into pulp sales and continued the same trend. With over 30 years in the industry and with experience in both paper and pulp, Peter is in the ideal position to lead Canfor Pulp’s sales and marketing team to deliver our high quality products to our valued customers around the globe.

Peter is located in Vancouver and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University.

Stephen Mackie

Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations

Stephen Mackie was appointed Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations on November 5, 2015.  

Stephen has been with Canfor more than 10 years, most recently as Vice President, Operations Canada, and prior to that as Director, Capital and Strategic Projects, where he aligned business and customer needs by overseeing more than $450 million in capital investments and supporting Canfor’s expansion into the southeast United States.

Raised in Houston, British Columbia, Stephen started working in sawmills when he was 16, before going to the University of British Columbia to earn a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

Stephen’s extensive experience in wood products manufacturing and woodlands management places him in an ideal position to help Canfor meet the rapidly changing needs of the modern forest industry and growing global markets. He supports the sector by serving as a director of the BC Forest Safety Council.

Alan Nicholl

Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Finance and Canfor Pulp Products Inc.

Alan Nicholl was appointed Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Finance and Canfor Pulp Products Inc. on March 5, 2018. Prior to this appointment, Alan served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President for both Canfor and Canfor Pulp. Alan has been with the company since April 2008 when he joined as Corporate Controller. For 10 years prior to this, he held various senior financial positions within the Canadian forest products industry.

Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Alan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Accounting from Bristol University, England in 1985. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.

Kevin Pankratz

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Kevin Pankratz began his career at Canfor in 2004 and was appointed to his current role in January 2018. His extensive experience at Canfor includes leadership roles in North American Markets, Supply Chain Optimization and Offshore Market Development. His experience, which includes 28 years in the forestry industry, has allowed Kevin to play a key role in executing Canfor’s customer-focused strategy.

Kevin obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of British Columbia.

Martin Pudlas

Vice President, Pulp and Paper Operations and Innovation

Martin Pudlas was appointed Vice President, Operations of Canfor Pulp Products Inc. on October 23, 2012. Prior to this appointment, he held the position of General Manager, Prince George/Intercontinental Pulp Mills and Specialty Paper.

Martin began his employment with Northwood Pulp and Timber Ltd. at the Northwood Pulp Mill in 1988 as a Process Engineer. Over the years, Mr. Pudlas held various positions of increasing responsibility within all of Canfor's Pulp and Paper operations, and has been the General Manager at the three Canfor Pulp mills in Prince George, BC. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the College of New Caledonia and Premium One Papers. Martin, who is located in Prince George, has a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from the University of British Columbia and is a Registered Professional Engineer.

Fred T. Stimpson

President, Canfor Southern Pine

Fred T. Stimpson was appointed President of Canfor Southern Pine in 2015 to lead Canfor’s southern yellow pine lumber and treated products business.

Fred joined Canfor in 2013 as part of Canfor’s phased purchase of Scotch Gulf Lumber, where he held the role of CEO. Prior to Scotch Gulf Lumber, he served as president of Gulf Lumber Company from 1986-2009.

Fred currently sits on the board of directors for the American Wood Council, the New Orleans Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and Coastal Land Trust and is a founding board member and past Chairman of the Alabama Forestry Association. He is former chairman of Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association, American Family Business Institute and Infirmary Health System, and is former president of Alabama Wildlife Federation.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia.

Peter Bentley

Chairman Emeritus

Peter Bentley, O.C., O.B.C, LL.D., of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was formerly the Chairman of the Board of the Company from 1983 to 2009 and served on the Board of the Company since 1966. Mr. Bentley is a Director of Canfor Pulp Holding Inc., the general partner of Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership.

After working in various positions throughout the Company, Mr. Bentley became Executive Vice-President in 1970, President in 1975, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1985, a position he held until April 24, 1995. Mr. Bentley was reappointed to the position of President and CEO of the Company on July 25, 1997 and relinquished the position of President and CEO of the Company on January 1, 1998.

Mr. Bentley is President and a Director of Sierra Mountain Minerals Inc. a member of the Board of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, a member of the Advisory Board of BuildDirect.com, and a Trustee and Chair Emeritus of the Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Hospital Foundation. He also served for many years as a Director of Bank of Montreal and Shell Canada Ltd. Bentley retired as Chancellor of the University of Northern British Columbia in May 2007. Mr. Bentley holds Honorary Doctorate of Laws degrees from the University of British Columbia and University of Northern British Columbia.

Mr. Bentley chairs the Joint Corporate Governance Committee and is a member of the Company's Management, Resources and Compensation Committee, Joint Environmental, Health and Safety Committee and Joint Capital Expenditure Committee.

Glen Clark

Glen Clark, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was elected to the Board of the Company in May 2009.

Mr. Clark is the President and Chief Operational Officer of The Jim Pattison Group and a member of the Board of Directors of Westshore Terminals Investment Corporation. In the capacity of President and Chief Operational Officer of The Jim Pattison Group, Mr. Clark has corporate responsibility for, Canadian Fishing Company, COMAG, Everything Wine, Genpak, Guinness World Records, Jim Pattison Lease, Montebello, Ocean Brands, Overwaitea Food Group, Pattison Sign Group, Ripley Entertainment, Sunrype, The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group and TNG. 

Prior to 2001, Mr. Clark served as Premier of British Columbia from February 1996 to August 1999.  He was Minister of Finance and Corporate Relations from November 1991 to September 1993 and Minister of Employment and Investment from September 1993 until February 1996. Mr. Clark was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in 1986 to represent the constituency of Vancouver-East. 

Mr. Clark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and a Master’s Degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of British Columbia.

Mr. Clark is a member of the Joint Environmental, Health & Safety Committee and Joint Capital Expenditure Committee.

Mr. Korenberg is a Director of HSBC Bank Canada, Kruger Products LP and its associated company, KP Tissue Inc. (which he chairs) and Westshore Terminals Investment Corporation. He serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of British Columbia (UBC) as an advisory board member of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of British Columbia and Yukon, is a member of the Law Societies of Ontario and British Columbia and the Dean’s Advisory Committee for the Centre for Business Law at UBC.

Conrad Pinette

Chairman of the Board

Conrad Pinette of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is Chairman of the Board of Canfor Corporation and its principal subsidiary, Canadian Forest Products Ltd., and is also a Director and Chairman of Canfor Pulp Products Ltd.

Mr. Pinette's work in the Canadian forest industry began 40 years ago as an owner and President of a family lumber business, Pinette & Therrien Mills Ltd. Mr. Pinette has also served as Executive Vice President, Tolko Industries Ltd. (2005), Executive Vice President, Riverside Forest Products Limited (2004) and served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Lignum Limited from January 1990 to April 2004.

Mr. Pinette is the former Chairman of Finning International Inc. and a former Director of Gold Canyon Resources Inc., TimberWest Forest Corp, Northgate Minerals Corporation, A&W Revenue Royalties Income Fund, Finning International Inc. and the British Columbia Business Council. His is currently a member of the Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Prostate Advisory Board.

Mr. Pinette is chair of the Joint Environmental, Health and Safety Committee and is a member of the Joint Management Resources and Compensation Committee and Joint Capital Expenditure Committee.

Ryan Barrington-Foote

Mr. Barrington-Foote was elected to the Board of the Company in April 2017.

He is currently the Managing Director, Accounting, at The Jim Pattison Group where he has worked since 2001 with oversight responsibility for accounting and tax related functions. From 1996-2001, he was associated with KPMG LLP, where he earned his CPA (CA) designation in 2001. He obtained a degree in Business Administration (Hons.) from Simon Fraser University. Mr. Barrington-Foote was a Director and Treasurer of the Rick Hansen Institute from 2010-2016 and received an award as one of Vancouver’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2009.

Mr. Barrington-Foote is a member of the Company's Audit Committee, Joint Corporate Governance Committee and Joint Management Resources and Compensation Committee.

J. McNeill Singleton

J. McNeill (Mack) Singleton, BA, JD, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA has served on the Board of the Company since 2007. Mr. Singleton is the former CEO of New South Companies, Inc. (now Canfor Southern Pine Inc.) headquartered in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company.

Mr. Singleton has 38 years of experience in the wood products industry, all with New South or its predecessor companies, and was the CEO of New South since 1985, until his retirement in September 2009. He has served on the boards of numerous industry associations and committees and is past Chairman of the US Coalition for Fair Lumber Imports and the Southern Forest Products Association.

Mr. Singleton received a BA degree from Presbyterian College, a J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and completed the PMD Program at Harvard Business School.

Mr. Singleton is a member of the Joint Capital Expenditure Committee and Joint Environmental, Health and Safety Committee.

Ross Smith

Ross Smith, FCPA, FCA, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was elected to the Board of the Company in May 2009.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Board of Directors of Rotherham Holdings Ltd., a member of the Advisory Board of Marsh Canada Limited and Chairman of the Board for K-Bro Linen Inc., N&T Properties Ltd. and Kal Tire Holdings Ltd. 

Mr. Smith had a successful 35 year career at KPMG LLP where he held various roles, including Managing Partner for British Columbia region and served for 13 years on the National Management Committee prior to his retirement in 1998. While in public practice, Mr. Smith served major public and private companies, many of which were in the forest industry, from an audit and securities perspective.

Mr. Smith has served on many charitable and community boards in a past member of the Board of Governors of the University of British Columbia. Mr. Smith is also a former member of the Board of Directors of HSBC Bank Canada. Mr. Smith qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1962 and was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia (ICABC) in 1990 and in 2010 was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the ICABC.

Mr. Smith chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the Joint Management Resources and Compensation Committee.

William Stinson

William Stinson, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada was appointed to the Board in May 2011.

Mr. Stinson spent the majority of his business career with Canadian Pacific Ltd. retiring as Chairman and CEO in 1996 after 11 years in that position. He has served on a wide variety of boards and has held the positions of Chairman of Sun Life Financial, Chairman of the Executive Committee of United Dominion Industries and Lead Director of CHC Helicopters Ltd. He is currently a Director of Westshore Terminals Investment Corporation.

Stan E. Bracken-Horrocks

Stan E. Bracken-Horrocks, FCA, of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada has been a Director of the Company since 2010 and served as a Trustee of the Fund from 2006 to 2011. Mr. Bracken-Horrocks served as a Director of the Board of the General Partner from 2006 to 2012.

Mr. Bracken-Horrocks is a retired partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and held various leadership positions during his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, including Global Leader of its Forest and Paper Industry practice. As a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, Mr. Bracken-Horrocks served as a member of the Board of Governors and a member of the Accounting Standards Committee and, as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia, he served as a member of council, Vice-President and President. Mr. Bracken-Horrocks is a former Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Business Development Bank of Canada.

Mr. Bracken-Horrocks chairs the General Partner’s Audit Committee and is a member of the Joint Corporate Governance Committee and the Joint Capital Expenditure Committee.

Barbara Hislop

Ms. Hislop was elected to the Board of the company in April 2017. She is an award-winning senior executive and an active community leader.

Ms. Hislop worked at Canfor from 1977-2004 where she held various roles in marketing, production, and executive positions including Vice-President of Operations and President and CEO of Genus Resource Management Technologies Inc., a technology company that Canfor operated from 2002-2005. Ms. Hislop has also served as Executive Director of Variety-The Children’s Charity of BC and and completed a two-year term as International President of Variety – The Children’s Charity. She is currently the ex-International President and President of the European Regional Council. Ms. Hislop is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors Governance Program in Canada and has sat on several Boards including Bank of Canada and Hudson’s Bay.

Ms. Hislop is a member of the Joint Environmental, Health and Safety Committee, Joint Corporate Governance Committee and the General Partner's Audit Committee.

Honourable John R. Baird

Johh Baird, P.C., of Toronto, Ontario was elected to the Board of the Company in April 2016.

Mr. Baird is a Senior Business Advisor to various enterprises and a former Senior Cabinet Minister in the Government of Canada.

Mr. Baird spent three terms as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons, most recently as Minister of Foreign Affairs (2011-2015). Previously, Mr. Baird held a variety of government posts, including President of the Treasury Board, Minister of the Environment, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. 

Mr. Baird also spent 10 years in the Ontario Legislature. From 1995 to 2005 he served as Minister of Community and Social Services, Minister of Energy, and Government House Leader.

Currently, Mr. Baird serves as a Senior Business Advisor with Bennett Jones LLP. In addition, Mr. Baird currently sits on the advisory board of Barrick Gold Corp., the corporate boards of Canadian Pacific, FWD Group and PineBridge Investments, is a Global Strategic Advisor to Hatch Ltd. and is a Senior Advisor at Eurasia Group.

Mr. Baird also volunteers his time with Community Living Ontario, the Prince's Charities, and is a board member of the Friends of Israel Initiative. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Queen’s University at Kingston.

Mr. Baird is a member of the Joint Capital Expenditure Committee and the Joint Environment, Health and Safety Committee.
