Canfor Southern Pine Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Standard Implementation Policy

Canfor Southern Pine (CSP) is committed to implementing and achieving the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) Standard (2010-2014 Edition) in its procurement of wood to supply its manufacturing facilities in North and South Carolina.

CSP promotes scientifically, environmentally, socially and economically sustainable forestry practices to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This is accomplished by practicing and promoting a land stewardship ethic, which integrates the reforestation, growing, and harvesting of trees for useful products with the conservation of soil, air and water quality, biological diversity, wildlife and aquatic habitat, recreation, and aesthetics.

CSP’s SFI Policy is to promote the Principles of Sustainable Forest Management including: practicing sustainable forestry, employing responsible practices, regenerating the forest and maintaining its productive capacity, protecting and maintaining long-term forest and soil productivity, protecting water resources, protecting special sites and biological diversity, complying with legal requirements, managing visual impacts and providing recreational opportunities for the public, promoting sustainable forestry among landowners, supporting forestry research, training and education, promoting community involvement and transparency, and continually improving forest practices.

CSP is committed to compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, including social laws, and takes appropriate steps to comply. It also promotes forest certification with family forest owners and encourages loggers to participate in appropriate logger training programs.

To implement and achieve the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard Principles, Objectives, Performance Measures and Indicators; CSP has developed and adopted programs and plans to guide its wood procurement activities. These programs and plans are contained in the SFI Indicators and Evidence Matrix and accompanying SFI Implementation Programs.

The company is also committed to annually review the effectiveness of its SFI policies and programs and to continually improve performance.
