2016Sustainability Report

Once again, Canfor and Canfor Pulp’s joint sustainability report is made available in an online format to make it easier for readers to identify specific indicators and find the supporting information. It is Canfor Corporation’s 16th sustainability report; our sixth to the comprehensive Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines for sustainability reporting; and our fourth combined report with Canfor Pulp Products Inc. (Canfor Pulp). Canfor Pulp produced its first sustainability report in 2010.

Our 2015 report won the Finance Sustainability Initiative award for best sustainability report in the Renewable Resources & Alternative Energy category for 2017. The competition promotes excellence in sustainable development reporting among Canadian companies that are part of the S&P/TSX Composite Index. Winners are selected by a jury of students from participating Quebec universities.   

While Canfor and Canfor Pulp remain separate companies, Canfor holds a 53.6% interest in Canfor Pulp, and management activities are being integrated to increase efficiency through a shared services model and leverage purchasing power. Don Kayne is CEO of both companies, and Michael Korenberg is chair of the Canfor Corporation and Canfor Pulp boards.

This report embraces all Canfor and Canfor Pulp operations from January 1 to December 31, 2016. Canfor’s solid wood manufacturing businesses include Canadian Forest Products Ltd. and Canfor Southern Pine, a wholly owned subsidiary in the United States. When the phased purchase agreement of Beadles and Balfour Lumber Companies in Georgia is concluded, we will include its operations in our sustainability reporting.
