Canfor Pulp greatly improves quality control thanks to the implementation of the Valmet Process Quality Vision system, now in operation at our Intercontinental and Northwood NBSK pulp mills in Prince George.
Using high-intensity LED light and high-resolution cameras, the Valmet Process Quality Vision system identifies and records dirt and shives in the finish pulp. This allows Canfor Pulp to ensure dirt specifications are met for the pulp delivered to our customers. It is also the first time in the world that a dirt-testing system of this kind has been implemented to inspect 100% of pulp shipped from a mill.
With this technology, we are able to provide unparalleled information on the dirt content of our pulp – a huge advancement in what was possible prior to this project and what our competitors are able to deliver.
Many of our pulp customers are producing increasingly sophisticated products and in order to do so, they require more specific information on the quality of the pulp that is used. The Valmet Process Quality Vision system is fast, accurate and efficient which allows Canfor Pulp to address these customers’ needs by providing an unequaled level of quality control for all pulp produced by the Intercontinental and Northwood pulp mills.
In addition to the Valmet Process Quality Vision system, we have other leading-edge analysis equipment in the works to provide additional quality information to meet the needs of our customers. We look forward to sharing more about this technology in the near future.
The combination of the high-intensity LED lights (below the pulp) and the row of high-resolution cameras (above the pulp) is used to inspect 100% of the pulp for actual dirt content.
